Michael Van Barren Black Male Educator Initiative
The Michael Van Barren Black Male Educator Initiative was established on August 16, 2019 by Dr. Kevin M. Jackson in honor of his first Black Male teacher; Mr. Michael Barren. Mr. Barren served as Kevin’s music teacher, choir director, boy scout master and 4th grade teacher. He made a powerful impact and played a significant role in his decision to become an educator.
In honor of Mr. Barren for his impact and mentorship, Dr. Jackson funds school resources for Black Male Teachers around the country each school year.
